This presentation will provide examples of social determinants of health and family level and community-level adverse experiences, provide an overviews of certain societal trends related to adverse experiences, provide relevant statistics, and describe the neural/developmental impact of adverse childhood experiences. Attendees will reflect on the role of OT in promoting resilience factors like healthy coping skills, as well as learn about examples of social/emotional/ coping/self-regulation strategies across multiple MTSS Tiers for school-based therapy.
Objectives:
- Give at least 3 examples of adverse childhood experiences and social determinants
of health. - Summarize neural / developmental changes as a result of adverse childhood
experiences. - Compare various strategies to promote healthy coping / social emotional skills.
- Identify ways occupational therapists can support students at various MTSS Levels
with self-regulation, coping, and social emotional skills.
